This summer, big budget movie Suicide Squad from DC Comics wrapped filming in Toronto. It has a stellar cast led by Will Smith, Jared Leto, Margot Robbie, Cara Delevingne, Viola Davis and Ben Affleck. A secret government agency recruits imprisoned supervillains to execute dangerous black ops missions in exchange for clemency. One of the biggest movies ever shot in Toronto, they shut down the financial district for a staged helicopter crash and a stretch of Yonge Street for a high-speed chase. Suicide Squad is expected in theaters in August 2016.
Currently shooting in town, Shimmer Lake is Oren Uziel’s feature directing debut. Benjamin Walker stars in the crime thriller told backwards. It reverses day by day through a week as it follows a local sheriff’s quest to unlock the mystery of three small-town criminals (Rainn Wilson, Wyatt Russell and Mark Rendall) and a bank heist gone wrong. Stephanie Sigman, Rob Corddry, Ron Livingston, John Michael Higgins and Adam Pally also star.
